#5: Jim Gusanoz- Businessman of the Year

2010 was a banner year in the business community at Dartmouth. The endowment started to recover, Tridelt reclaimed the top spot in the Novack bake sale circuit and DDS turned a profit (just kidding). However, one man made some of the boldest business moves in Hanover history, challenging an age-old monopoly and brining both the free market and late-night Mexican cuisine to Hanover: Jim Gusanoz.

Jim made an aggressive business play when he challenged the EBA’s monopoly on late night delivery. For years, hungry students could only order overpriced and uninspired pizza between 1 and 2 AM. However, Jim challenged the status quo, overcame the barriers to entry and, with the help of the Justice Department, brought late-night Mexican to Hanover. This variety created the largest quality of life increase for students since heating was installed in the dorms in 1828.

When asked for comment, Jim told the Dunyun in a written statement, “In today’s world, the way we do business is constantly evolving. If we fail to adapt to our customers’ needs and the competitive environment in which we operate, we will be swept away like the telegraph and paid online porn. Because of this, we are now adapting to customers needs and delivering until 2 AM on WEDNESDAY, Friday and Saturday.”

This is not the first example of Jim’s superior business acumen. In the early 1980’s, he innovented and patented the punch card customer rewards program, now earning royalties from corporations such as Subway, McDonalds and Jermaine’s High End Escort Services.

The larger business community has already noticed this business insight. Jim has already been offered to co-author the next edition of Meir Kohn’s Econ 26 textbook as well as an honorary deanship at the Tuck School of Business. Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan are rumored to have contacted Jim about underwriting a potential Gusanoz IPO.

So when you think of the great business minds that have passed through Hanover, the Paulsons, Immelts, and Rockefellers of our great school, be sure to add a new name to the list: Gusanoz.
