DDS Institutes All-You-Can-Drink Policy in Campus Fraternities

DDS announced yesterday that meals under next year's dining plan in '53 Commons will also be valid in campus fraternities. Instead of getting individual beers from brothers, students will be able to spend meals on unlimited drinks for a night.

"The current system does not accommodate students who may feel the need to skip drinks because they're too awkward to approach the bar or ask a brother, especially by the time finals come around," said Director of Dining Services Neil Gibson.

The all-you-can-drink system will make various types of alcohol available. "Younger students get close to the bar and need to decide whether to get Sleepyfeet or Keystone. It's just not fair," said Gibson. Newly renovated fraternity bars will offer a variety of hard liquor, beer, and chasers; all available to those with the meal plan. "Hopefully students will no longer feel the need to drink in moderation."

To preserve tradition, the meal plan at TDX will only be offered to athletes and anyone with coke.

Gibson said that a similar system to '53 Commons will be imposed where those who do not spend meals won't be permitted to hang out in frat basements. The goal is to "avoid overcrowding and keep pong lines under 4."

The inclusion of fraternities will accommodate freshmen who, required to purchase the largest plan, won't have to worry about finding the liquid confidence to dance with that babe-asaurous rex they met at Dimensions.

Emily Barton '14 is skeptical about the new system: "What if I just want to grab a quick drink on my way to class? I'm not gonna spend a whole meal on that. Plus, the time at the bar forces me to consider if I really need that extra porchcrawler. With alcohol freely available, I may over-drink. So many calories."

A common concern is that the new plan only caters to heavy-drinking athletes.

Gibson assuaged concerns about over-drinking saying, "It's okay, we're gonna use smaller cups."

Light and non-drinkers are looking forward to spending more time at alternative social spaces or their dorms. "Even though I don't drink much, I liked hanging out at frats with my friends. But it's okay, I'm sure Collis Common-Ground is sweet," said Sam Kleinman '13.

Kleinman added, "We would hang out in Foco, but you know."
