Rigorous Selection Process Legitimizes Student Group

The Wheelock Vox Society, a popular student organization, has seen an unprecedented number of applicants this fall. Sources inside Wheelock Vox attribute the rise in interest almost exclusively to its historically low acceptance rate. Despite already high levels of applications, the deadline was still extended by two weeks.
The Dunyun has been unable to determine what exactly Wheelock Vox does.

“Most of our energy this fall has been spent overseeing our extensive application process,” said Ray Sou Mae ’13, one of the founding members. “Winter is dominated by fundraising. And exec board elections take up the whole spring.”
The expanded application includes three critical essays, two rounds of interviews, and a timed two-mile run.
‘16s are anxiously awaiting first round decisions. “Apparently 243 people applied for 15 spaces,” said Overeager Annie ’16. “But I should definitely get an interview, right? I wrote this great essay on all the leadership activities I did in high school, wrote a hilarious answer on what my spirit animal would be, and I broke 14:00 in my two-mile!”
“Getting into Wheelock Vox makes or breaks your Dartmouth experience,” said Siegfried Epps ’16. “At least that’s what my friends there say. They say my life at Dartmouth is going to be so meaningless and sad if I don’t get in!”
Epps is a former member of the Dunyun photography staff.
He is also a member of Soul Scribes, Student Assembly, Dartmouth Ski Patrol, Students for Africa, and the Committee of Student Events Committee (CSEC).
Mae commented that the rigorous application process was necessary to keep the organization’s numbers down. “We’re such a close-knit group, we want to keep that unique quality. It’s not like we’re trying to exclude people. Well, maybe we are.”
So Schulklimer ’15, the Deputy Vice Secretary of External Affairs of Wheelock Vox, emphasized how being in the society has shaped his Dartmouth experience. “I’ve gotten to know so many Amazing Student Leaders. I mean, only 14 of us were accepted last year out of like 150 applicants. Pretty awesome.”
In other news, GLOS has successfully ended any and all hazing from campus.
